Reworking an old Dwarf Radicans Gardenia bonsai and a Dwarf Podocarpus bonsai

First up is a wonderfully aged Dwarf Radicans Gardenia bonsai, you don’t run across many bonsai like this around Tampa. It’s over 30 years old and is displaying some nice ramification. In the coming years the canopy could be reduced even further to make the tree’s design more succinct. After growing out for awhile it was now time for a full restyling. A good wiring and changing the planting angle helped to add stability and balance to the design. It turned out really well, not to mention the blooms smell divine.

Next up we have a Dwarf Podocarpus bonsai. Another fairly old tree over 20 years old. Some of the old cuts had died back to the base so carving was the best option to improve the design. The tree was pruned back hard this time around but it will really improve the tree down the road.
